Lettings agency fined for HMO breach

Key Solutions Property Agency in Hounslow also had to pay court costs of £1,040.The five-bedroomed property was initially occupied by sharers and should have been licensed under the borough council’s additional licensing scheme, which takes in properties of two storeys or more and which are shared by four or more people.

Councillor Steve Curran, Hounslow’s cabinet member for housing, said: “We are very keen to bring about improvements to health and safety standards and ensure that shared houses and bedsit properties in these areas are not overcrowded.''

“This prosecution serves as a warning to landlords that they will be held accountable for not ensuring their properties are let to the correct standards.“HMO licensing has been introduced to achieve this aim and our inspectors will be out and about on further cases to ensure that tenants are getting a fair deal from their rented properties and live in conditions that adhere to health and safety standards.”
